The first Friday of every month is a special time for Downtown Omaha’s Old Market–it’s when we get to unwind, connect with new and old friends, and play host to some great local talent for First Friday Artwalk! This upcoming Friday, Oct. 4th, we’re tripling the fun by introducing you to three fantastic photographers.
Chelsea Hannah Nielsen is a portrait and concert photographer and videographer, born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Her imaginative composition and style, combined with her use of lighting and color to make her photos pop, has earned her a large following in the area. Her diverse portfolio includes fashion photography and promotional shots for musicians and bands, but what’s really intriguing are some of her more quirky and whimsical approaches to portraiture. For her upcoming showcase at First Friday Artwalk, Chelsea’s eclectic use of post-processing software takes her unusual portraits to a celestial level. Her artistic talents really shine here.
If you think that the world of tech and fine art are totally irreconcilable, you haven’t met Ronald Shankland. He is a full time engineer and technical expert in the art of photography whose work focuses on portraiture, architecture and landscape images. Since one of the most important aspects of photography is lighting, Ron enjoys working with a variety of lighting situations, many of which are very unusual.
Last but not least, we have Jim Lamb of Black Sheep Photography. Jim is a portraitist with a background in senior portraits, family photos, and fashion photography. His portrait style makes the most of natural lighting and the great outdoors, but he’s also proficient in the studio, working with strobes. Communicating with his subjects to put them at ease helps him capture amazing images that they will cherish for a lifetime. For October’s First Friday, he’ll be showcasing a series called The Seasonal Princesses, an exploration of the serene beauty of all four seasons.
If you are as excited as we are to see these works up close and personal, make sure you save the date! Stick around and you can even rub elbows with the photographers. They’ll be there to talk to guests about their work and share some insight into their process. See you there!
