February is for lovers.. of tea and art! After kicking off 2013 with a bang, we’re excited to take part in another First Friday Artwalk at Omaha’s historic Old Market. This month, nine galleries will be showing work from local artists. Grab your friends, family and kick off the weekend with a unique, enriching and diverse offering of art, food, sights and sounds. Check out some of the highlights of tomorrow’s Artwalk below.
The Tea Smith: Photography by Kris Hammond
Why not start off your evening with yours truly? Arrive early for a relaxing or invigorating cup of tea and take in the artwork of photographer Kris Hammond. Her work features some beautiful views from expeditions through Arizona and Utah. If you’re a casual bird watcher, or an expert ornithologist, you’ll love Kris’s portraits capturing different types of feathered friends. It’s no wonder she’s able to get close and personal with her subjects after being mentored in bird banding.
Old Market Artists Gallery: Jewelry by Lisa Maciejewski & Meridith Merwald-Gofta
Looking for wearable art? You’re in luck! Old Market Artists will be featuring works by two resident jewelers, Lisa Maciejewski and Meridith Merwald-Gofta. These one-of-a-kind pieces are all handmade. Not a bad idea if you’re already in search of a Valentine’s gift for a special someone.
Nebraska at the Market: Mac’s Creek Wine Tasting
The only thing we love almost as much as tea is wine. Mac’s Creek Winery is owned and operated by the McFarland family in Lexington, Nebraska. You don’t have to travel all the way up Highway 21 to sample their wine, though. This Friday, you’ll find them at the Old Market. Find out what Nebraskan wine is all about while you do some shopping. Nebraska at the Market will also be featuring various local artists.
There’s much more to see and do. Don’t forget to check out the full listing of venues and showings. As always, you can ride Ollie the Trolley for free. If you’re driving, you’ll be glad to know that there’s also free parking available. See you tomorrow!
