These teas may aid in the fight against breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month for good reason. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women after lung cancer. The American Cancer Society states, “The chance that a woman will die from breast cancer is about 1 in 39 (about 2.6%).”

In addition to getting regular mammograms and wearing pink to raise awareness, we encourage you to take advantage of the possible cancer-fighting benefits of some of our favorite teas and herbal infusions.

Teas and herbs are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent illness or disease. While we believe that teas have beneficial healing properties, we are not medical professionals. Please consult your doctor before making any major changes to your lifestyle and medication.

Green Tea

One study found that “Green tea components, especially epigallocatechin-3-gallate, possess anti-breast cancer effects.” While its effects on cancer prevention and therapy are still inconclusive, it’s worth hedging your bets with a tasty cup on a regular basis, and we have dozens of green teas to explore.

Recommended Green Tea: The bright, grassy flavor of Sencha Shin-Ryoku Japanese Green Tea comes from its lack of oxidation and minimal processing style passed down from generation to generation.

Oolong Tea

Another study treated six different breast cancer cell lines with different concentrations of green, oolong, black and dark tea extracts. They concluded, “Oolong tea, same as green tea, can induce DNA damage and cleavage, play an inhibitory role in breast cancer cell growth, proliferation and tumorigenesis, and was a great potential as a chemo-preventive agent against breast cancer.”

Recommended Oolong Tea: Also known as the Iron Goddess of Mercy, Ti Kuan Yin Oolong Tea featured tightly-rolled leaves, and is highly-prized for its flavor and longevity.

Echinacea

A study on natural cures for breast cancer found that the flavonoids in Echinacea stimulates the immune system and lessens the harmful consequence of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. “It also helps the patients in prolonging the survival time with progressive stage of cancer.”

Recommended Echinacea Tea: Packed with powerhouses elderflower, astragalus, and echinacea, Immune Balance Herbal Tea balances the medicinal benefits of herbs with tasty rooibos, ginger, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, black pepper, and a hint of vanilla.

Ginseng

In addition to its other health benefits, ginseng may help women survive and thrive after breast cancer. In one study, “regular [ginseng] users had a significantly reduced risk of death” and had “the strongest effect in the psychological and social well-being domains”.

Recommended Ginseng Tea: Ginseng Oolong Tea features our Ti Quan Yin Oolong rolled in real ginseng and sweetened with a touch of licorice root. This tea will give you a good kick, wake you up, and help you concentrate.

To all the women in our community and beyond, stay safe and healthy!

  1. I also think the act of making tea creates calm and serenity, which reduces stress, which helps fend off illness.
