50 Shades of Pink: Cherry Blossom Season

50 Shades of Pink: Cherry Blossom Season

It’s that time of the year when some lucky parts of the world are covered in confectioner-pink clouds of cherry blossoms. While it might be too cold in our own neck of the woods to see cherry blossoms blooming, other places are already starting to see an explosion of pink. In fact, Washington has seen its own cherry blossoms bloom earlier than ever! The biggest Cherry Blossom Festival in the country is kicking off, with people arriving from all around the world to take in the sights and smells of thousands of trees springing to life.

You don’t have to miss out on all the fun just because you can’t be there. Here are three things you can do to celebrate from the comfort of your own home and ring in the cherry blossom season with style.

Follow Blooms Online

DC’s National Park Service website has some terrific resources for all of your cherry blossom viewing needs. If you’re looking to geek out, you’ll find lots of statistics, history and data on cherry blossoms. You can also follow the bloom schedule to follow and predict peak blooming times. There’s even a webcam with a direct feed to some of the best views. Make sure to check in throughout the DC season (which ends in the first week of April) so you can see all the changes that take place over the next few weeks.

Make Your Own Cherry Blossoms

What better way to honor the Japanese custom of hanami (cherry blossom viewing) than to take part in another great tradition from this country: origami? Here’s one paper-folding method you can use to create a beautiful springtime craft perfect for cherry blossom season. Or make kirigami cherry blossoms. Get creative by using differently patterned paper and varying shades of pink. You can make a great display for your table when you have friends over for tea.

Have Some Cherry Blossom Tea

Turn up the heater and have your own hanami picnic indoors. Cozy up with a warm cuppa of our Cherry Blossom Tea. The floral aroma will help you feel like you’re sitting underneath a blooming cherry tree. Dried bits of fruit add to a sweet sensation without being overly saccharine.

How are you celebrating cherry blossom season this year? Don’t let the cold weather get you down, and make sure that wherever you are, you brighten up your day with a splash of pink.
