Teas may be great for soothing sore throats and helping flush out the last remnants of colds and flus. An old-fashioned and heartier method of using teas as a flu-time remedy involves mixing them with – what else – whiskey. I’m of course referring to the classic Hot Toddy, a great way to enjoy your tea during the wintry months that packs an extra punch while helping you cope with cold and flu symptoms.

Teas and herbs are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent illness or disease. While we believe that teas have beneficial healing properties, we are not medical professionals. Please consult your doctor before making any major changes to your lifestyle and/or medication.

Tea Hot Toddy Recipe

Makes one 16-20 oz cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of whiskey
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 of a lemon
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1 t. of our Not So Plain Vanilla steeped in 6-8 of hot water

Directions

  1. Drizzle the honey into the glass to completely coat the bottom.
  2. Add the whiskey and the lemon and mix well.
  3. Brew your tea separately and pour on top.
  4. Serve in an Irish Coffee Glass with a cinnamon stick for garnish.

There are lots of fun variations that you can experiment with, too – just don’ t try them all in one night!

One easy switch up you can try is using different types of tea and alcohol. Mix Not So Plain Vanilla tea with bourbon for a deliciously sweet Hot Toddy.

For a drink with a bit more of a bite, try using spiced rum or ginger. Or try our Ginger Peach Black Tea for freshly-infused flavor.
